UNEMPLOYMENT

NO. 4 DEPOT As Monday is the last day of September, this month’s coal orders will be booked until Friday. On Monday orders will be booked as for October. NATIONAL UNEMPLOYED WORKERS' MOVEMENT

The general meeting was held in the Trades Hall on Tuesday evening before a good attendance of members and their wives. Mr M. Silverstone (president) was in the chair. Correspondence was read and received from the Hons. J. G. Coates, G. Forbes, J. G. Cobbe, G. Smith, and the Leader of the Opposition (M. Savage), and various other organisations. The secretary’s report on his week of organising was considered satisfactory, it being intimated that ho had enrolled over 60 new members and had got various groups to appoint delegates. The president gave a detailed report of the district conference of country and camp delegates held in the Trades Hall last Saturday, and he assured the members that a fuller report would be given at the next meeting. The reports from the various sub-committees—namely, propaganda, youth, medical, and social were received. _ The secretary intimated that a deputation would be received at the Hospital Board’s meeting respecting the application for better treatment and medicine for unemployed. It was agreed to hold a public meeting of all men on sustenance next. Tuesday evening in the Trades Hall at 7.30 p.m. Messrs F. M'Comish and P. H. Petrie were elected speakers to address the meeting. A deputation was appointed to wait on the City Council at its next meeting about men who happen to fall 1 sick and recover not getting regrouped with the various local employing bodies. Messrs Cecil and Petrie were appointed as the demitation ,Mr F. M'Comish and Mrs 'Bennett were appointed as sick visitors on behalf of the organisation to the various hospitals. It was agreed that it be represented at the forthcoming national conference in Wellington on November 23, the selecting of the delegate being Feld over until the next general meeting.
