DANZIG ELECTION
PROTECTION OF CONSTITUTION ASSURANCES GIVEN TO LEAGUE (British' Official Wireless.) Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright RUGBY, September 23. The Council of the League of Nations held a short session this afternoon to hear Captain Eden, as rapporteur on the petition presented by different organisations regarding (ho Danzig election.
Captain Eden requested the council to invite the President of the Danzig Senate to give formal assurances as to the measures lie proposed to take to prevent a recurrence of incidents and remedy the state of affairs revealed by the petition. He expressed full approval of the work of the League Commissioner (Mr Sean Lester).
The Council decided to ask for strict observance in future of the principles of the constitution of the Free City and of guarantees given to minorities. M. Laval fully supported Captain Eden’s report, and emphasised the fact that the Danzig Constitution had been placed under the guarantee of' the League, and must be respected.
