PACIFIC PIONEER AIRMAN
BACKING FDR “SMITHY’S” TASMAN VENTURE TRUST OFFERS £IOO,OOO Press Association—By Telegraph— Copyright BRISBANE, September 25. (Received September 25, at 9.50 a.m.) Mr H. C. Armstrong, the representative in-Australia of the British Pacific Trust, said that the trust had offered to back Sir Charles Kingsford Smith to the extent of more than £IOO,OOO in his proposed transtasman air service. Mr Armstrong said it was recognised in, many directions that Sir Kingsford Smith was more or less entitled to this section of the Pacific route, which he had done so much to pioneer, “ Contrary to the expectation that the trust’s control of the British Sikorsky flying boat output would upset Sir Kingsford Smith’s plans, the trust, on being informed of Sir Kingsford Smith’s intention, has advised that it will endeavour to facilitate them. The trust has cabled me that, subject to agreement as to plans and methods, it will be willing to interest itself in the provision of capital for Sir Kingsford Smith’s enterprise to the amount of £100,000.” Discussion of this offer is likely to follow.
