FORM DISAPPROVED

STUDENTS’ PEACE DR WAR QUESTIONNAIRE DUNEDIN BALLOT NOT YET OPENED Current interest among University students centres largely on the national questionnaire of the New Zealand University Students’ Association, which calls on them to define their views on a comprehensive series of 13 queries as to whether peace or war is favoured, and while in Dunedin there are some who approve, many other students consider the questions are somewhat too farrenebmg, and should be more explicit. The latest issue of the 1 ‘ Critic ’ disagrees entirely with the form of the ballot, which is about to be conducted. Ballot papers have not yet reached the local Students’ Union, though it is reported from Wellington that they were despatched to all centres last Friday night The students’ papers are reel, and boldly headed ‘ Peace or War?’ Yellow voting sheets are provided for the University college staffs of the Dominion, many of whom are said to be enthusiastic supporters of the campaign. Every effort will be made by the organisers to secure the largest ballot possible, and all students will be canvassed thoroughly. At Victoria College, Wellington, the ballot has started, and each of the other universities will make its own arrangements to conduct the voting. Voters are asked to answer yes or no to each question, or to put a question mark beside it, while comment may be added on the back of the ballot paper. It is hoped that the poll will be completed in all centres by the end of September. The results are to be analysed by Dr C. E, Bceby (executive officer of the New Zealand Council for Educational Research). The number and variety of questions will make his task an extensive one, and it will probably be the end of October before the final analysis is announced.
