OBITUARY
MR LEONARD HEWITT [Per United Press Association.} CHRISTCHURCH, September 24. The death occurred this morning of Mr Leonard Hewitt, one of the city’s most prominent business men. The Christchurch Stock Exchange passed a resolution of sympathy with the relatives this morning and adjourned until this afternoon.
Mr Hewitt was the second son of Mr James Hewitt, an early Canterbury settler. He was born,in Christchurch in 1874, and was educated at Christ’s College. He entered the, service of the Union Bank of Australia on leaving school, and subsequently became manager of the bank’s branches at Opotiki and Te Awamutu. In 1919 Mr Hewitt resigned from the bank and bought a seat on the Christchurch Stock Exchange, which he retained to the time of his death. For a number of years he was in partnership with Mr A. F. Scott, but more recently he had been in business on his own account. He was a member of St. Mary’s Anglican Church, Merivale, and was its auditor for many years, in addition to holding other offices. He was also a member of the St. Albans Bowling Club. He married Miss Prances Webb, a daughter of Colonel Webb, of Nelson, and there are two sons, Messrs Desmond and Rodney Hewitt, both of Christchurch.,
