BIG CONCERT TO-MORROW NIGHT / • The big concert which has been arranged by the New Zealand Broadcasting Board will take place to-mor-row (Thursday) night in the Town Hall. The whole of the proceeds are for the mayoress’s children’s Christmas cheer fund. Prices of admission are only 2s and Is, , and these tickets can be booked at Begg’s without tax or booking fee. Gladys Moncrieff, Australia’s queen of musical comedy, with Gil Dech at the piano, will be heard in selections from her repertoire, and is sure to receive a warm welcome on her reappearance. Gil Dech, eminent English pianist, will be heard in piano novelties. His piano solos are well Jcnown to gramophone owners and over the radio, and his numbers are sure to be appreciated. Heather Kinnaird, contralto, will make her appearance and sing ‘ Oh Sing To Mo the Old Scotch Songs,’ ‘ Lie There My Lute,’ and ‘ Morning ’; Raymond Beatty, bass-baritone, will be heard in ‘Blow, Blow, Thou Winter Wind,’ ‘I Heard You Singing,’ ‘ Shepherd, See Thy Horse’s Foaming Mane ’; and Heather Kinnaird and Raymond Beatty will be heard in duets, ‘The Voyagers,’ ‘ The Singing Lesson.’ Both these artists possess voices of rich quality and extensive range, and they demonstrate exceptional control of their vocal resources as well as genuine interpretative gifts and a sense of dramatic effect. Fred Bluett needs no introduction to Dunedin as a-humorist, and he will make everyone happy with his numbers, ‘ Goodship Hardship,’ ‘Jolly Good Fellows,’ ‘Father.’ ‘Gold Fish.’ John Robertson, the brilliant cornetist, is -a great favourite. He will play ‘ Willow Echoes,’ ‘Annie Laurie,’ ‘Russian Fantasia,’ ‘O Promise Mo.’ Ethel Wallace, our own violinist, will also assist in this great concert, and will play ‘ Dragon Flies,’ ‘ Parted,’ ‘ Hejro Kati.’ A full orchestra, under Mons. B. L. H. De Rose, will play the overture ‘ Don Juan,’ ‘ Florentine!’ Grand March,’ and Mrs Ernest Drake will be the accompanist. At the last concert, which was for the mayor’s fund, the house ivas a record for New Zealand, and it is to bo hoped that to-morrow another record will be broken.
