WEATHER FORECAST
MAINLY FAIR TO FINE
The following weather forecast w*« issued at noon by the Meteorological Office, Wellington, covering the' south* ern district—Dunedin, Port Chalmers, Tapanui, Winton, Invercargill, Riverton, Orepuki, Bluff, Halfmoon Bay:— An intense anti-cyclone has remained centred east of the South Island, while at the same time a cyclone has been situated north-west of the Dominion. Forecast: Moderate to fresh east winds. Weather mainly fair to fine, hut cloudy in the eastern area, with, showers or misty rain at places. Seat moderate.
SUNSHINE AND WIND.
Except for an absence of frost this morning the weather to-day was a replica of that experienced yesterday. From sun up the sky was clear until just before noon, when banks of light cirrus clouds began to appear. Again, there was a strong* fresh blow from the nor’-east, though the noon temperature of 55.9 deg was slightly higher than yesterday s, when the maximum for *4 hours was the 54deg at midday, con* trasted with a minimum of 42deg,which, incidentally, was the highest night temperature since August -n The minimum this morning was 47deg. Steady at 30.3 in, the barometer reading was identical with that taken at noon yesterday. No rain has been recorded since last Thursday.
