STIRRING STORY OF ANIMAL LIFE
1 SEQUOIA ' COMING TO ST. JAMES The very unusual film ‘ Sequoia,*• which will be shown for the first time at the St. James Theatre on Friday,; offers what overseas critics describe as the most wholesome' and delightful entertainment seen in a picture of this type for many years. The story was taken from ‘ Malibu,’ a novel by Vance Joseph Hoyt, and brings the audience in close touch with Nature. The two leading characters, played’ by Jean Parker and Russell Hardie, seek romance in the Sequoia National Park, and with this theme as a background a stirring story of animal life is unfolded. This deals with the strange friendship between a deer and a mountain lion, usually two_ of Nature’s bitterest enemies, who live together and protect each other from their mutual dangers. This simple story is presented in a most dramatic manner, the..effect being considerably strengthened by the beautiful and artistic photography,; most of which was actually clone in the Sequoia National Park, and which has given the film an unusual atmosphere of realism and freshness. There are numerous excellent scenes of wild animals, notably those of a stampeding herd of deer, a fight between two bull deer and coyotes, bears, and eagles in their natural haunts. Throughout this magnificent drama the human interest is admirably maintained. /
