Captain Edwin G. Morris, R.N., Director of Naval Reserves, arrived by the express yesterday from Wellington, and inspected the Otago Division of the R.N.V.R. in the evening. The mayor (Rev. E. T. Cox) has sent an invitation to Miss JM|t Batten to visit Dunedin. Police-inspector D. Cameron, who has been visiting Dunedin, left this morning on his way back to Greymouth. Mr G. R. Herron, of Balfour, left Dunedin for New Plymouth by train to-day. Sir James Gunson (Auckland) and Mr D. Reese (Christchurch) have been reappointed to the Government Railways Board for a further period of two years. A civic reception has been arranged at Auckland in honour of Miss Jean Batten, who will arrive from Sydney on Monday by the Aorangi. The reception will take place in the Town Hall. Advice received by Miss Batten’s father indicated that his daughter would leave for Wellington on Tuesday to be the guest of the Governor-Gen-eral (Lord Bledisloe) and Lady Bledisloe. On the arrival of the Aorangi the machines of the Auckland Aero Club will circle over the vessel. M. de Rose was a passenger by this morning’s mail train for Wellington, whither he had been summoned to attend a conference on the proposed formation of a New; Zealand Grand Opera Company. A Press Association cable message from Sydney states that, among the, passengers by the Aorangi, Which left Sydney yesterday for Auckland, were Sir George Tallis, Mr H. H. Sterling (chairman of the New Zealand Railways Board), Miss Jean Batten, and Mr C. P. Ulm. On Monday evening last a dinner was held at the Grand Hotel by the Otago and Southland Ford dealers to bid an revolt to Mr Ormond Hutchinson, manager of the Colonial Motor Company Limited,' Timaru, who has been appointed general manager to Ford Motors (Canterbury) Limited, and also to welcome his successor, Mr Macauley, late assistant manager of the Colonial Motor Company Ltd., Auckland. _ There was a representative gathering of Ford dealers of Otago and Southland. Mr J. H. Stevenson, director of Messrs J. H. Stevenson Ltd.,Balolutha, was in the chair, and Mr J. L. Napier, general manager of Ford Motors (Dunedin) Limited presented, on behalf of the Ford dealers of this province, an antique brass fire screen,log box, and fire set, as well as a mechanical motor car for Master Hutchinson. The speaker made reference to the high esteem in which 'Mr Hutchinson was held by all with whom he had come in contact, _ and the many courtesies and the assistance he had rendered during the term of his office.Reference was also made to Mrs Hutchinson, and amidst loud applause the gifts were handed over with all good wishes for the recipients’ good health hnd prosperity.
