Mr and Mrs James Brown, of Wellington, left Dunedin by train this morning for their home. Commissioner Cunningham was farewelled on the Dunedin station this morning as he entrained for Wainiate. He was accompanied by Colonel Scotuey, the Army’s property secretary. Mr G. M. Warren, passenger representative of the Cunard Line at Liverpool, left Dunedin this morning for Wellington. Mr C. P. Hutchinson, the company’s passenger representative in Wellington, was accompanying Mr Warren. Mr G. R. Peake, a director of Tapley and Co., travelled by train to-day from Dunedin to Timaru. Mr W. J. Morrell left for Wellington this morning to attend a meeting of the New Zealand University Senate’s Executive. Mr A, J. Allen came to Dunedin from Invercargill by this morning’s express. Mrs Marshall Macdonald started this morning for Wellington after a visit to Dunedin. Mr D. G. MacKenzie was a passenger by the 11.35 train to-day for, Christchurch. Mr F. Holmes, of the Para Rubber Company, transferred to the Timaru branch, left by the 11.35 train this morning. Flight-lieutenant Nevill has been nominated by the Government to undergo the next training course at the Royal Air Force Staff College, Andover,England, commencing next January. Mr W. H. Carson returned to-day from a business visit to Sydney and Melbourne. In our notice on June 12 of the death' of Mr Frederick Bastings, it was inadvertently stated that his wife survives, whereas Mrs Bastings died on February 26. Congratulations' to Bishop Fitchetf on.his consecration as bishop were tendered by the Chairman (Dr G. E. Thompson) at yesterday afternoon’s meeting of the Otago High Board of Governors. The Chairman expressed the hope that the many duties that would fall on Bishop Fitchetf s shoulders would not interfere with-the valuable work he had done for the school and the board for many years? The death of Mr Walter R. Rodgerson was referred to by the Chairman (Dr G. E. Thompson) at the Otago High Schools’ Board meeting yesterday afternoon. Dr Thompson said that Walter, Rodgerson had been dux of the Boys’' High School in 1931, and had gone oit to the University as a student. He had 1 given great promise in various departments, especially in science. It was a very sad occurrence that a boy who showed such gifts of character and scholarship should be cut off so young.A motion of sympathy with the relatives was carried, members standing in' silence for a moment. Noteworthy distinctions gained recently by old boys of the Otago Boys’' High School were referred to by the rector (Mr H. P. Kidson), in his report to yesterday afternoon’s meeting of the Otago High Schools’ Board of Governors Mention had already been made to the election of Archdeacon W.i A. R. Fitchett to the Bishopric of Dunedin. . His consecration took place on' June 11. Two old boys, Mr James Begg and Mr R. J. Hudson, had been appointed directors of the new CentralBank. Mr J. C. H. Somerville, who had been elected, to the Board of Governors, was an bid boy of the school.Professor H. H. Cornish had been appointed Solicitor-General. Mr J. 8,, Mawson was the new principal of St* Andrew’s College, Christchurch ; Mr J* Renfrew White was chairman of tho honorary medical staff at the Dunedin Public Hospital; Mr I. S. Cantrell manager of the Dunedin branch of the National Bank; and Mr A. T. M'Naughton director of the Board of Religions Education for the Presbyterian Church, of Australia. There was a large attendance at the funeral of Walter R. Rodgerson yesterday afternoon, including the Chancellor and Vice-Chancellor of Otago University, senior members of the Otago High School staff as representing the rector, a detachment from.the First Battalion of the Otago Regiment, a large muster of Boy Scouts, and some senior members of the St. Clair Bowling Club. The service at the home in St. ; Clair was conducted by the Rev. R.Scott Allan and Professor Dickie, and they officiated also at tho service in the Crematorium Chapel. The. senior boys of the St. Clair School formed line on the kerb as the twenty-five cars went past, - Resignations of teachers were accepted as follow by the Education Board to-day:-—Ronald F.
