ECONOMIC WAR WITH BRITAIN STATEMENT BY CHANCELLOR Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright LONDON, June 18. (Received June 19, at 12.30 p.m.) In the House of Commons Mr Neville Chamberlain, questioned regarding the Government’s attitude as to the Free State’s indebtedness, declined to state the terms on which ho was prepared to settle. He explained that if the Free State paid the arrears and promised to pay in lull in the future, that would be taken into account, but in the course of warfare of this sort things occurred which after a time were difficult to remove. Nevertheless he adhered to Mr Thomas’s statement that when the Exchequer was recouped for the Joss sustained through the Irish default, the duties would cease.
