REIGN OF TERROR
CHADS IN HAVANA MACHINE GUNS AND RIFLE FIRE Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright, HAVANA, June 18. A terrific outburst of machine gun and rifle firo directly into the ranks of tho ABC paraders occurred on one of tho busiest corners in Havana, and came as a climax to a reign of terrorism which began on Saturday night with tho opening of an ABC fiesta and two-day gala, which the Radicals had sworn to break up.
TWELVE PEOPLE KILLED HAVANA, June 17. A complete check of the attack on the ABC shows that twelve were killed and sixty seriously injured. Over 50,000 marchers, at least a fifth of whom were women, lined for miles the principal streets. The attackers, who operated from an automobile instead of from buildings, as at first reported, had at least three machineguns. After they had raked the paraders with a deadly fire they tried to escape, but on turning a corner at high speed tho car overturned and a group of ABC men shot and killed the four occupants. The enraged mob soaked the vehicle in petrol and ignited the carbonised bodies.
Despite the attack the parade was reorganised, and after the dead and wounded had been, removed was continued through the streets. The casualties included several women.
