INCREASE IN REGISTRATIONS ANOTHER SIGN OF IMPROVING TIMES When the motor car owner lowers his car off the jack, inflates the tyre, hoses and polishes the duco, and screws on new number plates, it is a sign that his economic condition is improving, or ho has regained confidence in the security, of his own future. There are many more hopeful motorists now in Dunedin, as is undeniably proved by the increase in registrations of vehicles and the appearance on the roads of several new cars each day. The motor trade has brightened tremendously, and ifc is an indication that tho purse-strings are being loosened. When figures were totalled last year on the final day before the new license plates were attached the vehicles registered at the Chief Post Office, Dunedin, numbered 7,027, but this year the number had increased to 7,837. From June 1 to yesterday thirty-four new cars had been licensed, while eight new deliveries had also been placed on the road. Two new heavy lorries have been licensed, and three new taxis have taken up their stand in the city. The army of motor cyclists is also increasing, six machines having been sold from stock, and one now trailer has been registered. The motor dealers are enjoying a mild boom, and, in fact, soma firms are unable to supply the demand, orders for new cars being booked, in one case, six weeks before delivery.— The registrations up to the beginning of this month, with the figures at the same time last year, were as follow; Cars—s,299 (4,673). Light trucks —815 (849).' Heavy trucks—7ol (623). Passage omnibuses—4lo (27). Taxis—lo 6 (96). Service cars—37 (44). _ p Trailers—73 (car trailers included under light trucks last year). Local authority vehicles—6l (58). Motor cycles—-552 (540). Government vehicles—62 (64) Dealers’ cars—47 (41). 1 Dealers’ cycles—4 (3). _ Contract vehicles 37. Rental cars—l 3 (9).
