The fortnightly meeting of Court Pride of the Leith was held on Wednesday last, when there was a good attendance of members, C.IL Bro. W. Dillon occupying the chair. D.C.R. Bro. H. L. Thomson, J.P.D.C.R. Bro. R. S. Vorcoc. D.T. Bro. J. Hope, and D.B. Bro. A. Gibson, attended officially, and received tho usual welcome. which was responded to by tho D.C.IL. The toast of “ The Visitors ” was acknowledged by C.S. Bro. W. M. Hogg, on behalf of Court Enterprise. An interesting and instructive report on the proceedings of the recent annual meeting of the Dominion Council of Friendly Societies was given by Bro. IL S. Vereoe. ami a vote of thanks was passed to him for the information given to the members. During the meeting one new member was admitted wit,h the customary ceremonies.
The fortnightly meeting of Court Bruce. Milton, was held on May 28, G.R. Bro. L. S. Lambert presiding over a fair attendance of mem hers. A resolution of sympathy was passed to Bro. W. J, M'Fanl. now resident in Christchurch, owing to a recent bereavement in his family. P.C.R. Bro, P. Atkinson, Jt Court Pride of Gore, expressed his appreciation of tho courtesy extended to him by the members diming his lengthy stay in the Milton district. Court Little John, Dunedin, intimated that the proposed arrangements ’ for paying an official visit by Court Bruce were suitable, and a large number of members signified their willingness to make the trip. An invitation was received and accepted from the Toko, Lodge, J.0.0.F., to a friendly card evening at its next meeting. The Social Committee deported that arrangements were well in hand for celebrating the sixty-ninth anniversary and the centenary of the Order. Invitations had been sent to the district executive officers, and various courts in the Otago district to be represented at tbe ball. One new member was admitted during the meeting, and one nomination received. At the conclusion a successful dance was held, to music supplied by Mr W. Taylor, whilst the C.R. officiated as M.CA Number of members paid a visit to the residence of Bro., and Sister Fraser Rend on a recent night, to tender them a surprise evening in honour of their recent marriage. A most enjoyable time was spent in harmony and cai’ds. On behalf of tbe court, P.C.R. Bro, W. Kennedy presented the newly-wedded couple with an eiderdown quilt, and referred to tho active association with the court always shown by the recipients. Both at present were in office, P.C.R. Bro. Read as minute secretary and Sister Bead as S.W. Other members endorsed the remarks of tho speaker, and P.C.R. Bro. Read suitably responded. Court King Edward’s Pride held its fortnightly meeting on Thursday evening last, there being a fair attendance of members. In the absence of theC.R., owing to illness, P.C.R. Bro, W. Ross occupied the chair. Courts Pride of Oamaru and Victoria wrote in connection with their forthcoming visit. Tho committee already appointed were instructed to carry on with tho arrangements to entertain the visitors. It was resolved to attend Court Excelsior anti present that court with the euchre shield which it had won recently. An invitation was accepted from Court St. Andrews to compete in the second round of the 500 card tournament. One new member was admitted. On behalf .of. the combined Foresters’ Ball Committee, Secretary Bro. A. W. Jones thanked the members for their valuable assistance and efforts in making the function so successful. After the meeting a dance in aid of the Christmas tree fund was hold.
