MONSTER RATS
INVADING ESSEX COTTAGES RESULT OF DROUGHT. Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright. LONDON, June 17. (Received June 18, at 10 a.m.) The ‘ Sketch ’ says that monster rats, thirst-maddened because the ponds are dried up, are invading Essex cottages and attacking children. The latest Case is reported from Hartfordend. James Petchey, a farm labourer, was awakened by screams, and beat off rats which were attacking his two sons, who were badly bitten on the hands and arms. The bed was covered with blood.
