STEEPLES TO HELIOTYPE The Hawke’s Bay Jockey Club’s Winter Meeting was concluded in beautiful weather. There was a good attendance, and the totalisator handled £6,710, against £6,100 for the second day last year. The total for the meeting was £11,357, against £lO,lOl last year. Detailed results: — HASTINGS HANDICAP, 60sovs. s§f. 4-S—BAL TREE, 8.10 (B. Morris) t 3-4 DE TROP, 8.8 (Leach) t 6-3—Flamingo, 8.5 (Olsen) 3 Also started; 2-2 Tycoon 8.10, 1-1 Hybiscus 8.6, 10-12 Shenanikida 8.4, 7-6 Hukemanu 8.4, 13-13 Pikiao 8.0, 5-7 Padishah 8.0, 11-11 Honanga 8.0, 11-9 Cassadora 8.0, 8-8 Bothwell 8.0, 13-13 Darecourt 8.0, 8-10 Alby 8.0. Won by a length. Time, Imin 9 De Trop, Alby, and Bay Tree wore first away, but Hybiscus went to the front, leading De Trop, Bay Tree, Tycoon and Flamingo into the straight. Hibiscus tired, Bay Tree and Do Trop passing the post together.

Won by a neck, with a length between second and third. Time, 3min 14sec. Red Bank, Ruanui,_and Count Lendroff were prominent in the early running. Cotsfield later ran in behind the leader, with Merry Damon and Emotion following. Red Bank and Emotion led into the straight, with Merry Damon and Kimbo challenging. Emotion won by a neck. HAVELOCK HANDICAP, OOsovs. 6Jf. 1- CYCLONIC, 8.7 (B. Morris) ... 1 2- —Poinard, 8.2 (Voitre) 2 3- Royal Shift, 9.0 (L. Morris) ... 3 Also started: 6-6 High Grader 8.13, 5- Treasure Hunt 8.2, 7-7 Marac Quex 8.0, 4-4 Snowball 8.0, 8-8 Marching Song 8.0, 9-9 Bold Bill. Won by half a' head, with a length between second and third. Time, Imin 21 l-ssec. Royal Shift was first out from Cyclonic, Marae Qnox, and Poinard. The order was much- the same to the straight, Treasure .Hunt then being third and High Grader fifth. Cyclonic and Poinard challenged to wear the leader down. Won by fifteen lengths, with 150yds between second and third. Time, smin 7sec. Heliotype went to the front to lead the field throughout. Heliotype, Taura Lad, Slipaway, Tunbridge, and Bon Aryan was the order for the first threequarters of a mile, Tunbridge then falling, while Slipaway fell back. The order in the second round was Heliotype, Taura Lad, Bon Aryan, and Slipaway. Bon Aryan fell round the back. Heliotype putting a break on the other two to win easing up. RAUKAWA HANDICAP, SOsovs. 2m. 2- —BOUDOIR, 8.9 (Broughton) ... 1 8- —M‘Heath, 8,0 (Atkins) ... ... 2 1- —Sunny Bachelor, 9.1 (Voitre) 3 Also started: Tres Sec 9.11, 8-S Mercian Prince 9.6, 6-5 Black Songster 9.3, 4- Conference 9.1, 10-10 Kabunoke 8.13, 5-6 Sabatini 8.7, 7-7 Round Score 8.0, 10-11 Bothwell 8.0, 11-12 Lady Wessex 8.0, 12-14 Monette 8.0, 13-13 Freeze 8.0. Won by half a length, with three lengths between second and third. Time, Imin 42 l-ssec. M'Hcath led all ,the ’way into the straight, Black Songster, Boudoir, Round Score, and Tres Sec being the only other prominent runners. Sunny Bachelor came frodm well back to secure third money. WOODLANDS HANDICAP, 70sovs. 6f. 3- LEO COLOSSUS, 8.0 (Voitre) 1 2- —Swift and Sure, 9.6 (Marsh) ... 2 6- —Cuddle, 8.7 (Goldsbrough) ... 3 Also started: 9-9 Limbohm 9.10, 4-5 Sir Nigel 9.4, 1-1 Timorous 8.9, 7-4 Arauline 8.4, 8-8 Takiri 8.0, 11-10 Kinrosss 8.0, 5-6 Count Willonyx 8.0, 10-11 Vera Lux 8.0. ' ’ , , Won by a length, with a bead between second and third. Time, Imin 15 4-ssec. Count Willonyx led out from Swift and Sure, Sir Nigel, and Arauline. Then Takiri took tho lead. Swift and Sure led into the straight from Timorous, Leo Colossus, and Takiri, but in the run home Leo Colossus came away, and Cuddle got up for third money. FINAL HANDICAP, SOsovs. 6f. 7- MOATOA 8.0 (Broughton) ... 1 1-I—Speed, 9.10 (B. Morns) ... ... 2 4- —Prince Colossus, 8.12 (Voitre) 3 Also started: 2-2 Souchong 9.13, 3-4 Royal Bengal 8.9, 5-5 Lady Ronald 8.8, 6-6 Sititch 8.0. Won by a head, with a length between second and third. Time, Imin 14 l-ssec. Souchong went to the front early to lead into the straight from Moatoa, Speed, and Royal Bengal, but ho faded out halfway down the straight, where Moatoa and Prince Colossus showed up, the former prevailing to win by a head.
