DUNEDIN AMATEUR CLUB With ideal conditions and a slight assisting wind on the outward journey, the starter (Me Ockwell) despatched son o sixteen riders from the starting point at Burnside for tho Dunedin Amateur Cycling Club second road race to Scroggs Hill and return. Tho first inen away were G. Mundy and L. Paid, followed some eight minutes later by th« scratch men,.. Lucas, M’Callum, Gilchrist, and Smart. On the outward trip B, Oakes and E. Richardson retired at_ Mosgiel, and passing through East Taieri the back men had gained slightly bn tho front men. On Saddle Hill the back men were maintaining a steady clip of twenty miles per hour, Gilchrist had drawn away but was Soon afterwards caught, and 0. Lucas whs finding it hard to keep up owing to a rather high, gear. Homer and Fletcher were the first to return, followed closely by Ralston, Paterson, and Lhws. On the return journey Homer was still in the lead. G. Mundy had been dropped. The back men had gained considerably, and were fighting hard for fastest time. Coming down Saddle Hill their speed was over 40 m.p.h. G. Homer crossed the line first, the winner of the race, followed by A. Fletcher (2) and ■). Ralston (3). In a great tussle amongst the back-markers, O. Gilchrist crossed ahead of D. M'Callum and C. Lucas, his time being 39miu 45sec, thereby securing fastest time. The race was controlled by the starter (Mr A. Ockwell), timekeeper (Mr J. Fletcher), and Messrs Greenfield, Laws, and Paterson.
