COLLAPSED RESERVOIR
LIMING REINFORCEMENT INADEQUATE [Pr« United Press Association.] ;V!; TAIHAPE, June 16. The report of .the consulting engineer. Mi- K. 'Worley, of Hamilton, on the new reserVoir, which cost over £2,500 ami collapsed irretrievably-,• was releasee for'publication 'to-day. Jt says tha; the site was excellent, but the siincl stone formation was lamentably lackin' in tensile strength to resist the bursting force of water when it- was only reinforced, with 2in of lining. The-old reservoir may be made adequate to the needs of the borough for many years for an outlay of about £220. ' The report exonerates the borough engineer completely, and says that;.reservoir building is specialised work, .find therefore, the Borough Council malic a mistake in not obtaining the advice ol a consulting engineer. The council should liave placed no reliance on tin "liituitous opinions of visiting eng) neers, since opinions which are riot pair for are worth professionally what they cost. The report will be presented by tbc council to a public meeting on Monday night.
