AMERICAN AIR FORCE
CORRUPTION AND INEFFICIENCY COMMITTEE’S SENSATIONAL REPORT Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright. WASHINGTON, June 17. (Received June 18, at 11.40 a.m.) The Congressional Committee, after four months’ investigation of the Military Aviation Department, issued a sensational report to-day, making charges of corruption and inefficiency in the purchases of aircraft and equipment, “endangering adequate national defence.’' Without charging him with dishonesty the committee recommended that Major-general Benjamin Foulois (Chief of the Army Air Corps) be removed for “ gross misconduct and inefficiency.’’ It is claimed that he was largely responsible for the army’s fiasco in carrying air mail. During the committee’s hearing it was intimated that home flying officials received bribes from aeroplane manufacturers for favouring their products. The money was conveyed in devious manners. It was alleged that in several cases manufacturers’ representatives engaged officials in “ friendly ” games of poker, and almost invariably lost large sums.
