PRACTICAL PSYCHOLOGY
‘ The Building Power of Faith ’ was the subject discussed by the Dunedin Practical Psychology Club at its last meeting. Miss A. Long presided. One speaker stated that faith was not merely a pious matter, nor a matter of creeds; it was simply the opposite of fear—a basic power in the human personality. It was a builder of wholesomeness and health, whereas fear paralysed life. Faith was an attitude of the mind and heart that automatically shut out worry anti depression,' and implied trust in God against the evidence of the senses. The power of this trustful attitude was inconceivable. It acted on the invisible substance of the universe, and because of its creative power produced that which was looked for and concentrated upon. It was also pointed out that a person had to look to himself before he grumbled about his bad conditions. Within each one was the cause of whatever came to him, no one else being to blame. Ho had to analyse his own mental attitude. The power of faith within was greater than any outward circumstances, and, knowing the truth, he would soon be set free from harassing conditions. , Every good action we did built up our faith: the more we trusted, loved,.and served the greater our faith became
