BRITAIN’S FOREIGN TRADE
CONTINUED EXPANSION FIGURES FOR MAY (British Official Wireless.) Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright. RUGBY, Juno 14. The continued expansion of British foreign trade is revealed in the considerable increase in the imports and exports for May compared with bo.th the previous month and last year. Exports have risen by nearly 9 per cent., while imports are almost 10 per cent, higher than in April. Impoi'ts of food, drink, and tobacco show an increase of over £4,000,000 compared with the previous month, but are slightly lower than in May, 1933, while raw material imports, though lower than in the previous month, have increased by £2,450,000 compared with last year. The most satisfactory features of the return are that the, chief increases in, exports continue to be in manufactured goods and that a large part of the increase in imports is due to raw materials, although there has been an appreciable increase in.imports of manufactured goods. The total number of licenses for receiving sets in force in Britain at the end of May was 6,339,560, compared with 5,576,770 a year ago.
