CHORAL CONTENTS.

TO THB EDITOR. • Sir,—Whilst enjoying the excellent concert put on by the Returned ■ Soldiers’ Choir in the Town Hall Concert Chamber recently, I could not help _ thinking how scarce concerts of this classaud standard are in these musically enlightened days, and that perhaps something could be done to encourage concerts of this sort. # I understand that there are other choirs in Dunedin, both mixed and- male voice, which are too seldom heard from the concert platform. The idea presented itself to me that as competition is the life of trade, the same principle could apply to choral singing, and that contests could be inaugurated in which choirs of different classes would compete, possibly for a trophy. C6ntests of this kind are a

national annual feature in Wales, and it is an undisputed fact that the_ standard of singing in that country is second to none. As a lover of good musio I desire to present this suggestion to those who are intimately acquainted with the musical life of, not only our city, but of the dominion. We liava band contests, elocutionary, and: classical dancing competitions; why not an annual choir contest on similar lines to those on which band contests are operated? Trusting 'that someone of musical influence will pursue this mat. ter further to some advantage.—l am* etc., ' ■ • Song Bikd. June 15.
