THE YEAR'S WORK
When one reviews the work that the radio authorities have done during the hast year, it is childish to argue that they have not kept faith with .the public (says a northern writer). The programmes at times may have been open to criticism. Nevertheless, om the money available the authorities on the whole have given license holders good value. Christchurch has been given a brand-new station, as also has Dunedin. Auckland is in process of acquiring an im-to-date station, and it is stated Wellington will, be dealt with nest. Considering that the board took over, at a stiff price, aytollection of more or less out-of-date stations, one‘could not hone for more progress.
Once this change-over has been made let ns hope hat the board will turn their attention toward improving the programmes. The beat way to ruin a programme is to pay low 'rices for the artists that supply it. One gets on the whole value for money, but one gets more value for more money than for •less money. The best artists at the best prices is calculated to stimulate trade. Already tbe authorities have shown a gratifying disposition toward common sense in tin’s respect.
