BEAUTIFYING WORK
PROPOSALS OF RESERVES COMMITTEE CONTRIBUTION BY AMENITIES SOCIETY A schedule of proposed beautifying and other city improvement works in various parts of the city has been approved by the Reserves Committee of the City Council, and the necessary authority given to the superintendent of reserves to act. An offer by the Amenities Society to contribute £3O towards the cost has been accepted with thanks. The works are as follow: Replanting the missing trees in Rawhiti street. Replacing missing trees in Hobson street, St. Clair. Planting shrubs behind railway advertisement near Caversham station tkowbais suggested). Improving lefthand entrance to station by planting. Improving the corner where South road leaves Princes street —something in the nature of flower beds with rock edge. k Replanting suitable trees in shrubbery at top of Mornington tram line leading from tram terminus to Queen's drive. Some of present shrubs are unsuitable; these to bo replaced with trees which would grow up with, clear stems. Laying out a flow'er bed at the side of the Mornington tram line near the terminus, between the line and the road. A row of large stones along the side of the ditch to he laid to hold back the cultivated soil; the border to extend to the line of poles, and from the crossing to near the shelter shed. Planting of one specimen tree on top of bank overlooking High street car line and school. Repairing marble slab of memorial in •Jubilee Park. Removing the broom and elder, and trimming and thinning trees in Jubilee Park. Planting flower plot on corner of tram line and Leven street (east side). Planting of flax, toitois, and cabbage trees in the swampy portion of Leven street, and cleaning out of ditch. Cutting out one or two trees to provide vista of harbour in part of Searba street playing area. Planting of native trees above Bullock Track—kowhais, ribbonwoods. Planting of an avenue of trees on left-hand side of road leading to Art Gallery. Replacing missing trees in Anzac avenue. Planting,of further shrubs on the hillside in Upper Duke street, opposite the Leith bowling green—pohutukawas. ratas, and kaka beaks for the upper part of the face, and flax and small native plants for the lower.
