Standing down—62 63, 64, 65, 66, 67, 68, 69, 71, 75, 78, 408. * 'i 1 CONDITIONS AT GAMPS GOLDEN GATE MAN SATISFIED Of the camps in Otago Central one usually hears nothing but complaints, but a member of the Golden Gate camp called at this office this morning to say that he was completely satisfied with the conditions existing there. He stated that the weather was ideal, and that after two weeks’ work he received the sum of £3, which enabled him to return to town for the weekend, to accompany his wife and two children back to the camp. The childjen are aged one year and two and ahalf years respectively, and it is considered that the conditionst at the camp will not prove adverse to either the 1 children or the wife. The camper has arranged with the Public Works Department for the supply of two tents and three flies. He expects that the tents will have been erected by the time he gets back to the camp on Monday. 1
HO. 4 DISTRICT The Social Committee of the No. 4 district will hold its weekly dance in the South Dunedin Town Hall this evening. Last Thursday a novelty night was held. A Monte Carlo was won by Mr Tait and Miss Donaldson, a fox trot competition was won by Mr J. King and Miss ■ Hopcroft, with Mr T. Wilson and Miss Fraser second. The winners of the waltzing competition were:—Mr Riach and Mrs Belcher, 1; Mr M'Laughlau and Miss peeves, 2; and the lucky spot winners were Mr and Mrs Falconer. A second Monte Carlo was won by Mr Mathewson and Miss Taylor. A community danoe caused amusement to all. AMBASSADORS' DANCE The Ambassadors’ dance, run under the auspices of the South Dunedin Unemployed Association, was again held on Tuesday last, a larger number than usual attending. This was probably duo to two reasons, one being the change of music, the Pioneer Band having been, engaged, and the other being the holding of the Otago waltzing championship, which is causing very keen competition. The finalists chosen on Tuesday were^—Mr and Mrs M'Auslin. Miss Hargreaves and Mr Normal Hall, and Miss Legg and Mr C. Reddington. The winners of the Monte Carlo were Miss Reeves and Mr Moyhiglian. The third heat of the championship will be held on Tuesday next,; when Mr Campbell will again be the judge; CONCERT AT ST. HILDA The arranging of the programme for to-morrow evening’s concert in tho Coronation Hall, St. Kilda, in aid of the funds of the mayor’s relief depot, has been left in the capable hands of Mr Ernest Drake, who has prepared a good entertainment. Vocal, instrumental, and elocutionary items by leading’ artists will be given. Patrons are assured of good entertainment.. Admission will be by silver coin. . CONCERT AT SOUTH DUNEDIN .The Soutli Dunedin Unemployed Association has arranged a capital programme of songs, instrumental items, comedy, delightful dancing, and novelty acts for to-morrow’s entertainment in the South Dunedin Town Hall at 8 p.ra. The following artists will contribute:— Miss M. Collins, Mr James Patterson, Mr G. Silva, Mrs Isaacs, Hilo Trio, Mr Lanrie, Mr Maharra, Miss Metcalfe, and the “ Sunshine Players.” Mr Joseph Kearsley will .provide the accompaniments, and admission will bo by silver coin. It is hoped that the association’s funds will benefit, and that the work of this body in assisting outstanding cases of distress among tho local unemployed will thus receive a stimulus.
The association wishes to draw attention to the fact that it is now making arrangements for the presentation of an entertainment by a large Maori party at an early date, particulars of which, will be advertised later.
