ACCOUNTANTS CONFER
NO SUPPORT FOR CERTIFICATE PROPOSAL PROMOTION OF fINANGIAL INVESTIGATIONS [Pkk United Press Association.) -> WELLINGTON, June lc. Following the promotion of a successful thesis competition on the accounts, finance, costing, and statistics of dairy factory companies, the Council of the New Zealand Society of Accountants decided yesterday _to promote another investigation,- basing the competition on local and public body finance and accounts. The range of the investigation will include harbour boards, hospital boards, power boards, etc., but_will exclude State finance.. A committee was set up to. draft a prescription. The council unanimously approved of a request that the five-yearly convention of accountants should be held at Auckland in February next following the annual meeting. The President remarked that, in addition to its educational value to "members of the profession, the conference would prove very helpful to the whole dominion. In the preparation of papers every care would be taken to bring the full knowledge of the profession to New Zealand’s aid. Recently, Mr Armour, the head master of Wellington College, acting as unrepresentative of the secondary schools, submitted a request to the society that it should accept the ‘‘ leav-ing-school ” certificate as an equivalent of matriculation as an entrance for the accountancy course. Mr Seaman, of Auckland, said that the society could not possibly accept the.certificate unless it was empowered to set certain subjects up to a certain standard. The President remarked that the cortificate scheme would not permit students to continue on for the degree of B.Com. It was resolved that the certificate examination should not be recognised.
