MR CHURCHILL'S CHARGES
COMMITTEE’S REPORT APPROVED HOUSE OF COMMONS DEBATE (British Official Wireless.) Press Association —By Telegraph—Copyright RUGBY, June 13. The report of the Committee of Privileges was debated in the House of Commons to-night. The debate was opened by the Prime Minister (Mr Ramsay MacDonald), who, in a brief speech, moved that the House agree with the report. He traced the circumstances which had led to the questions raised by Mr Winston Churchill being referred to the committee. Ho called attention to a paragraph in the report stating: “Your committee unanimously reports that no breach of privilege has been committed by Sir Samuel Hoaro or Lord Derby.’’ His duty was to put the report before the House. It was due to Sir Samuel Hoare and Lord Derby that the House should give a clear-cut decision whether or not they were guilty of a breach of privilege. . Mr Churchill, speaking immediately after Mr'MacDonald, said that be did not modify his original charge, and claimed that the report established that the Secretary of State for India and Lord Derby had, jointly and severally, from, the host of motives and in a perfectly honourable manner, endeavoured to deter the Manchester witnesses from presenting the evidence they dsired before the Joint Committee on Indian Constitutional Reforms.^ Mr MacDonald’s motion was carried without a division, amid cheers.
