QUESTION OF GOVERNMENT ASSISTANCE STATEMENT TO BE MADE. (British Official Wireless.) Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright. RUGBY, Juno 14. (Received June 15, at noon.) Dr Burgin (Parliamentary Secretary of Trade) said that the President of the Board of Trade would make a statement well before the recess—that is, before the end of next month—in regard to the question of Government assistance for British shipping. Replying to a question whether an international conference of countries affected by the present depression in the shipping industry would be called to consider laying-up schemes, or other proposals likely to mitigate the present position, Dr Burgin said these suggestions were among those receiving consideration by the Government.
