TAX BURDEN ON ESTATE
TRANSFER AFTER 250 YEARS By an arrangement between the late Marquess of Aberdeen and Temair and the late Sir estate of Cromar, which has been in possession of that branch of the Gordon family for 250 years, will be held in future by the Macßobert trustees. The Dowager Marchioness lately bade good-bye to the tenants on the Cromar estate. In a letter to them from the House of Cromar she pointed out that the late Marquess for some considerable time had realised that Jt was not possible tor him or his successors to carry on the estate owing to increase of taxation and other burdens.
“ Through a friendly and generous arrangement with the late Sir Alexander Macßobert,” the Dowager Marchioness continued, “ Lord Aberdeen and 1 were able to live among you in this lovely home amid the much-loved Deeside Hills during the last fourteen years.
‘‘Lord Aberdeen felt that, in transferring the property, which has been in the possession of his family so long, to another Deeside family who are in the position to do justice to it he is still rightly discharging his responsibilities toward the people of Cromar, in whom he took such a deep interest.”
