Mr Quelch said that for some years the board had been trying to avoid levying on capital expenditure. The capital levy this year was £5,000. The board, however, had made certain savings in maintenance, so that the actual increase would be about £3,000. They regretted that it was necessary to raise the levy, blit it was quite unavoidable. Mr Dove, who seconded the motion, said the condition of the hospital administrative building warranted thenasking for a capital levy. Did he understand they had to submit any capita] over £2O to Wellington ? The Secretary: For contingency purposes. The Chairman said that was not provided for in the Act. Mr Dove said the limitation of £250 was small enough. They seemed to be entirely run from Wellington, and the Government might as well make the whole thing a national job. The Chairman said the increase over the amount levied last year was £2,493. The motion was carried.
