MAN KILLED IN MINE EXPLOSION. Lawrence Pattinson, single, aged 28, residing with his parents at Dunollie, was killed instantaneously yesterday, afternoon by' a shot in the new Point Elizabeth mine. , The deceased was alone in the face at the time, and it is not known how the accident occurred. Two workmates who were outside the mine at the time heard the explosion, but the deceased was dead before they, could rea.ch him. BOY CYCLIST KILLED. A schoolboy named Graney Butts,aged 13, was killed last evening when he was knocked down by a motor van.The lad was cycling on the tram track at Waikiwi, Invercargill, and was not seen by the driver of the van, which was travelling in the same direction, until he was a short distance away. The driver applied the brakes, but was unable to avoid striking the cyclist, who was killed outright. CAR DRIVER KILLED. Harrv Best, middle-aged, a sou o! the late Philip Best, was killed instantaneously on the 'Appleby Mam road as a result "of his car skidding and breaking through a fence into a paddock. The deceased had almost reached homo with his wife and family after attending a picture matinee. The other occupants were not seriously injured.
