ST. KILDA QUEEN CARNIVAL
'The carnival fair, which is to bring to a close the effort of the St. Kilda Beach Improvement Society to raise funds for their public-spirited work, will he officially opened by the Mayor of St. Kilda (Mr J. Beattie), to-night in the local Coronation Hall. Preparations for this event have been proceeding for, some time pfist, and the object has been to create a real carnival atmosphere. To this end the programmes" arranged for each session are of a bright and entertaining character. The fair will be continued tomorrow and .Saturday afternoons and evenings. To-night , Tramways Queen Committee is providing,the provramine, while '-on afternoon special attractions have been arranged for children. Those include a fancydress competition, which will be judged hv “Big Brother'Bill,” of 41A -station. and Les.; Brown’s Maori Party, together with several first-class individual items. On Saturday night Begg’s Orchestra will render a number pf choice items, and Miss Lily Stevens’s pupils will be seen in captivating dances. Progress reports of the voting in the queen competition will be given evorv half-hour on Satin da\ night, the final announcement being made at 10 p.m.
