' Sir Cecil Day (official secretary) and Lady Day left Auckland to-day by train for Wellington. Mr G. W. Thomson, called to Auckland on professional business, left hy the 11.35 train to-day. Mr A. Tyndall, Under-Secretary-, Mines Department, left Dunedin for Wellington to-day, accompanied by Dr E. Marsden. Mr C. A. Wilson travelled by train to-day from Dunedin to Christchurch. Mr E. Moore, manager Bruce Woollen Mills, left for the north this morning. Mr R. Stowe, of Wellington, is on his way back after visiting Dunedin. Twelve members of the Otago Association Football Union left by train this morning to play at Auckland on Saturday. Mr A. E. Sharp, manager, and Mr J. Simpson, selector. Sir Rupert Fountain, who has been stationed here for thirty years, is officially notified that he is appointed principal inspector for Otago and Southland of the Live Stock Division of the Agricultural Department, in succession to Sir W. Wills, now retired. Mrs John Hatnir left this morning for Wellington to attend the funeral of her brother, Sir Walter Fuller, who died suddenly yesterday afternoon whilst visiting a friend. The deceased was the eldest of the late Sir John Fuller’s family. Mr A. Mills returned to Otautau by this morning’s south express. Mr J. Marks, of Wellington, is on a; visit to Dunedin. Miss Jean B. Summers, of the literary staff of the ‘ Southland Daily. News,’ is spending her holiday leave in’ Dunedin. Mr J. W. Ellison, of Bradford and Londonj who is arriving in New Zealand shortly by the s.s. lluahine, will settle in Dunedin, where he is taking up the appointment of wool expert with the Otago Farmers’ Co-operative Assqcitain of New Zealand Ltd. Sir Ellison is a son of Captain J. J. Ellison,, now of London, who is .well-known in New Zealand shipping circles. After forty-four years’ work ns bandmaster, Captain Thomas Herd, V.D.,. lias resigned from the position of conductor of the Wellington Artillery, Band, and is laying down the baton for good.—Press Association.. The Rev. A. J. Petrie, vicar of Ashburton, has been appronted Archdeacon: of Akaroa, in place of Archdeacon Taylor, who recently resigned.—Press Association. '
