ST. KILDA QUEEN CARNIVAL
The tramway queen is still leading in the St. Kilda Beach Improvement Queen Carnival competition, while the sports queen has moved up to second place, the municipal queen being third and the surf queen fourth. To-morrow night the last stage of the competition will be entered upon with a carnival fair in the St. Kilda Coronation Hall. This fair will be continued on Friday and' Saturday afternoons and evenings, and the Carnival Committee has arranged for a series, of attractive programmes. In addition there will be stalls presided over by. the respective queens, and a number of'■games and competitions. The Mayor of St. Kilda (Mr J. Beattie) has been asked to open the fair tomorrow night, and the full programme on this occasion wilt be provided by the Tramways Queen Committee. This will include items by the Tramways Band (which will first traverse the city and St. Kilda routes in an illuminated tramcar) and by individual iartists of note. The aim will be to create a carnival atmosphere, and the entertainment may be depended upon to be bright. An item of interest to housewives will be a competition for cakes and scones,_ for which prizes will be given. The principal item for the children will be the fancy dress competition on Saturday afternoon. The Municipal Queen Committee has secured the help of the Commercial Travellers’ Entertainers, who arc to stage a typical variety concert to-night. This will be • followed by a flaneg*
