MILFORD-TE ANAU LINK
COMPLETION DF EGLINTON VALLEY ROAD [Per United Press Association.] : ■ . CHRISTCHURCH, June 11. A decision about the completion of the Eglinton Valley road linking Milford Sound and Lake Te Anau, which involves expensive tunnelling work,, is to be madeshortly by Cabinet. This was stated to-day by the 'Minister of Public Works (Mr Bitchener). “ The work is advancing rapidly, but the stretch of road yet to be completed will be the most difficult of construe-, tiou,” Mr Bitchener stated. At present, he continued, it could not be said. whether a road would be built linking; ■ the Eglinton region to the south West Coast. Much of the country was prac.tically unexplored front the ground, althonugh it had been examined from the air. Until a proper survey was made there could be no likelihood of : this scheme being pushed further. The first step was to arrive at an estimate of the cost, and that demanded fuller knowledge.
