ST. KILDA QUEEN CARNIVAL
Interest in the St. Kilda queen carnival lias developed into keen expectancy regarding the ultimate result of the' polling, and the. announcement which will reveal the name of the chosen queen is being eagerly awaited by the large number of supporters of, each of the candidates. This announcement will be made on Saturday next, the final night of the carnival fair in the Coronation Hall, St. Kilda, at 10 o’clock. To-day . the tramways queen (Miss Agnew) is leading in the voting, but the surf queen (Miss C. Idour), the sports queen (Miss Ti. Barton), and the municipal queen (Miss S. Quirk) are all in the running. The programmes which have been arranged for the fair on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday next are of a specially attractive nature, and include band and orchestra!' music, fancy dancing, instrumental selections, humorous songs, and other popular items. , The fancy dress competition for children on Saturday afternoon, is expected to attract a large number of entries, especially as “ Big Brother Bill ’’ will ho the judge. There is also to be a competition for the best scones, cakes, etc. On thp opening night (Thursday) the Tramways Band will play in an illuminated traiucar which will traverse the city and St; Kilda routes. The programme at the Coronation Hall that evening will be provided by. the Tramways Queen Committee, which has help <,f a number of well-known artists. Tomorrow evening the Commercial Travellers’ Entertainers are staging one <d their ;delightful variety concerts, also in the Coronation Hall, for the benefit of the municipal queen. A dance will follow the concert. Once the carnival queen has been chosen the next big event will be the coronation ceremony, and this has been arranged for - dune 20 in His Majesty’s Theatre, when the art union which has been one of the avenues through which votes have been obtained will be drawn under police supervision. It is anticipated that tln» carnival will result in a substantial sum being raised for beach improvement purposes.
