N.Z. SCULPTOR HONOURED
BUST ACCEPTED BY RDYAL ACADEMY [Pee United Press Association.] CHRISTCHURCH, June 11. The rare distinction for a New Zealand artist of having a work of sculpture accepted for the Royal Academy Exhibition has been achieved by Mr F. A. Shurrock,. A.H.C.A., of the staff of the Canterbury. School of Art. Mr Shurruck’s accepted work is a portrait bust in'bronze of Mr Edward Armstrong, the .architect who designed the Robert M‘Dougall Art Gallery. Mr -Shurrock has not previously had a work accepted for Academy exhibition, nor has he sent aiiy. to England lor that purpose. He sent a plaster mode! of the bust of Mr Armstrong to England for casting in bronze, with the intention of having the bronze returned to New Zealand immediately. The work was done for Ins own satisfaction, and he decided to have it carried through to the casting, though this meant a personal expense of £4O, so that he might be able to show advanced students all stages of the work when the casting was completed. Mr Slulri’ock’s agent in England said he would exhibit the bronze in England, but Mr Shurrock had nO idea that the agent intended to send the bust to the Academy.
