LABOUR LEADER’S TOUR

DISSOLUTION URGED GOVERNMENT ABUSING ELECTORS’ PATIENCE (Pirn Uhitbd Fees* Association 1 WANGANUI, June 11. In the course of an address to a large audience in the Opera House to-night the Leader of the Opposition,. Mr M. J. Savage, stated that the patience of the people in respect to the Government’s inactivity and blundering was remarkable. Was, he said, in itself a sufficient reason lor a general demand for a dissolution Of Parliament at the earliest possible moment. The - parties to the present Coalition -Government bad been tried individually and collectively, and they had failed to justify the confidence of the people any longer. The Government should meet Parliament at the end , of the * month,' and, after having obtained supply and passed urgent legislation it should immediately ask for. a dissolution. Ministers were not entitled to expect the people to wait until next year for. an opportunity to pass judgment upon them. The existence of a Royal Commission set up for the purpose of finding a-policy for the Government to assist the dairy industry would, no doubt, be used as an excuse for Ministers remaining in office for a year longer than the three-year period for which they were elected, but the dairy fanners woilld have a lot to gain and nothing to lose by, holding a general election of 'members while the Royal Commission .was-, preparing its report. In any case, if the commission was expected to investigate and report fully on mortgage commitments and other .aspects of the position of the dairy farmers it could not possibly report, until late in the year. Resolutions of confidence in. the Labour Party and demanding a dissolution of Parliament hot later, than at the expiration of the period for which it was elected were carried .with enthusiasm. (
