Czechoslovakia eliminated New Zealand when Hecht defeated Andrews, 6-1, 6-1, 6-0, and will now meet Italy in the next round. Menzel defeated Malfrpy, 6-2, 6-0, 6-1. He fought each point and gave Malfroy no opportunity. Malfroy was unlucky in many of his returns, and won an occasional game by playing Menzel’s backhand on going up to the net. Andrews was tired and nervous. He overlobbed and never won a service. Hecht revealed a capacity for exploiting his opponent’s weaknesses. AUSTRALIA V. JAPAN M'GRATH DEFEATED LONDON, June 9. In the singles Turnbull (Australia): defeated Yamagishi (Japan), 6-4, 7-5, 9-7, and Fnjikura (Japan) defeated M'Grath (Australia), 6-4, 6-7, 6-2, 8-6. FRANCE V. GERMANY LONDON, June 9. Playing in Paris, Borotra and Bruguon (France) defeated Crannn and Denker (Germany), 5-7, 6-2, 6-4, 10-8. GERMANY ELIMINATED PARIS, Juno 10. (Received June 11, at 10 a.m.) Merlin defeated Nourney, 6-4, 7-5, 6-2; Cramm defeated Boussus, 6-1, 6-0, 0-6, 6-4. Franco eliminated Germany, and will meet Australia in the semifinal in the European zone.
