BASKETBALL
FIRST GRADE GAMES BLUE TRIANGE-ROSLYN. The game commenced in a very lively manner, and was both interesting and exciting to the spectators. Both teams showed good form, and. justified_ their promotion to A grade. Blue Triangle won by a narrow margin—15-14. UNIVERSITY v. ALBANY 11. Albany 11. opened the attack, scoring the first goal. University retaliated, but Albany again attacked successfully, making the score 3-1 in its favour. From then on University took the initiative, and were soon in a leading position, which they maintained until the end of the game. The half-time score was 10-5. In the second half University again dominated the play, although Albany showed a marked improvement in the latter stage of the game, the final score being 19-13 in University’s favour. EX-HIGH v. EX-HIGH 11. Ex-High .1., playing one short, were too active for the ll.’s, and won by a comfortably margin, 28-11. Miss J. Guppies was again back in her old place with the I.’s, and by her sure handling and shooting and allround play seemed to put added confidence and vim into the team. ALBANY I. v. RAWHITI. In the first half of this game some brilliant play was noticeable at times, the Kawhiti team playing quite good basketball, considering their late entry into the first grade competition. In the second half Albany dominated the play in all departments, their opponents not showing any of the combination or ability shown in the first part of the game. The score, 38-8 in Albany’s favour, was a fair indication of the teams’ merit.
Only first grade games were played, and these under cover.
