AIR STORY FOR EMPIRE Characterised as the companion picture 1o ‘Wings,’ Paramount s great epic of -the air, ‘'The Legion of the Condemned,’ another story of the v.u from tho standpoint of the aviator, comes to the Empire Theatre on iln*^ajVcro is a story that differs entirely in content from the famous road show, bat in colour, romance, characterisation, and downright thrills the Legion of the Condemned has taken Us°plncc j’iuht up alongside the production which is still “standing them up ” in tho larger cities. Like ‘ M ings, the tale is from tho pen of John Monk Siuinclers, a member of the United States Air Corps during the war, and is directed by William Wellman, who saw service with tho Lafayette squadron, and who is credited with tho direction of ‘Mings.’ Tho photoplay deals with an unattached flying unit at tho French front, composed of men who, because of their dark pasts, wanted to die. Their daring exploits were the talk of the war. Nothing was too hazardous as an undertaking. Into this group of men who welcomed death comes Gary Cooper ns tho young American newspaperman, betrayed by his sweetheart. The high spot shows Cooper forced to carry his ox-sweetheart across the German lines as a spy. Fay Wray, as the spy-sweet-heart, and Cooper head the cast, which includes Barry Norton (“Mother’s Boy ” of ‘What. Price Glory’), Lano Chandler. Francis M‘Donald. Vova George, Freeman M 7 ood, E. H. Calvert, Chariot Bird. In the Hying sequences are many of the worldfamous pilots who participated in the makings of ‘ M’ings.’
