JUNGFRAU OBSERVATORY

NECESSARY FUNDS IN HAND ZURICH, March 20. This summer a permanent observatory will bo erected on the Jungfraujoch, on the platform built into the slope of the so-called Sphinx. It will replace the present meteorological station there and serve also for astronomical and biological purposes. The idea is not new. It was first conceived by the builder of the Jungfrau Railway, who started the necessary fund with a considerable legacy. But for many years the realisation of the project did not make any headway, till the director of the Zurich Observatorv, Professor de Quervain, took it up "again. Various contributions to the building fund have come in, the Rockefeller Foundation contributing rously, and the necessary £IO,OOO is now in hand.
