NOTES ON THE EVENTS [By St. Claik.] The weather for the third day of the meeting was excellent and the attendance good, £656 Cs 6d being taken at the gates—an increase of £36 on the third day last year—making a total for the meeting of £3,090 14s, as against £3,197 3s 6d last year. The track was drier than on Monday, but still a little dead. For a third day the liclds were excellent. and the racing interesting throughout the afternoon. Air M‘lvor’s starting was good, and there was a marked improvement mi the cleanliness of the riding. The management of the meeting was good, and it should result, satisfactorily financially. The totalisator figures for the day were £]5,8784, and for the meeting £53,6314, as compared with £15,601 and £60,0121 respectively last year. •* * * * After the two good races he had run on the previous days Bed Boa was sent nut a good favourite for the Orepuki Maiden Race, weight for age, and Aleitui and Remindful were the best fancied of the others. Claronson was slow to move from tho barrier, and Haulage first out, but after going a furlong tho favourite took charge and led all the way, winning comfortably by two lengths from Positive, who just lasted long enough to boat Remindful by half a length. Ohai, Banner Boy, and Meitui next Budget, when running near the tail of the field, fell at the distance post and gave F. J. M‘Kay a nasty shaking. Investments, £1,4271 (last year £1,1074).

Musical Chimes and John Logan were withdrawn from the WakaLipu Harness Trot, fur which the bracketed pair, Ellcgro and Mountain Queen, was made a, good favourite, and Master Jack and Sea, Hawk were tho next in demand. Ghloris and Erin’s Fortune lost their chances at the start, and both of the bracketed horses broke badly after going three and a-half furlongs. Master Jack was in front all the way, and at the turn for home Cheap Money, King Commander, Chimingdale, and Sea Hawk were bunched just in behind him. Sea Hawk gob through on the rails, but could not reach Master Jack, who heat him by three-quarters of a length. Chimingdale was three lengths away third, followed by Knight Commander, Cheap) Money. and_ Sunbloom. Investments, £1,733 (£2,147).

King Balboa was a warm favourite for the Fiord Handicap, with Black Duke much better backed than Money Mine. Cupid’s Dart led Circulation and Fairy Herald away from a ruov-ing-in stnrt, but once in tbo back stretch Black ])uko uiicj the fa\ourite ran up second to Cupid’s Dart. They beaded the latter at the far turn, and raced into the straight on terms. King Balboa appeared to be winning easily at the distance, but had to he shaken up to beat Black Duke by a good head. Money Mine, who turned into the straight last, was a length and a-quar-ter off third and Circulation next. Investments, £2,13110 (£2,0575).

In the Fairfax Hack Handicap for apprentice riders Red Sea was a hot favourite, with Town Major, Paris, and Filosol next in order of fancy. bull Fling was smartest out and led Some Form and the favourite from the rise of the barrier, Paris and Night Maid being badly left. Full Fling led Some Form, Red Sea, and Red Boa across the top and into tho straight. Inside the distance Red Boa put in a great challenge on the rails and appeared to catch Full Fling on the post, but the judge gave his decision in favour of Full Fling. Some Form was two lengths further back third, and Pans, Filosol, and Red Boa next. investments, £1,947) (£1,611).

Only French Fleet was withdrawn from the Aparima Steeplechase, for which the winner of the Great Western Steeplechase, Snowfall, was sent out a good favourite with Fabriano, Greenstone, and Karanga the best fancied of the others. Prize Rose led Snowfall over the first fence, where Appolyu dislodged his rider, and jumping into the back Prize Rose led Fabriano, the favourite, and Blazing Light. At the next fence Prize Rose fell and The Babe baulked, leaving Blazing Light to go on in front from Fabriano, Karanga, and Greenstone. Blazing Light was the next to tip out, and at the water jump Karanga was just a littlo in front of Fabriano, Greenstone, and Ngarata, Snowfall dropping back. Karanga ran off at tho gorso fence before the double, leaving Fabriano and Ngarata well out in front from Greenstone and Snowfall, but tho first fence of the double tipped Fabriano out, and Greenstone ran off at the same obstacle. Tho favourite ran up to Ngarata before the next fence, and they jumped back into the course proper on even terms. Snowfall then drew away and won comfortably by three lengths from Ngarata, with Greenstone a dozen lengths away third. Flag Lieutenant completed the course, but ran inside a flag, .investments, £1,403 (£1,264).

Only John Logan was cvilhdrawn from tho Ohai Saddle Trot, for which Sun Cross was made a hot favourite, with Sea Hawk and Chiiningdalo the next fancied. Erin’s Coy and Honest Nell stood on their marks, and the favourite and Chiming Dale each went away at a tangle. Paneo Las and Marvin Dillon began smartly, but were joined by Sea Hawk after going four furlongs, and the latter led Panee Las and Marvin Dillon into the back. Going to tho far turn Chirningdale moved up into third place to Sea Hawk and Panee Las, and across the top ho passed the latter. Sea .Hawk led Chirningdale into tho straight, where the favourite ran into third place. Tn the run home Chirningdale lasted the better and beat Sea _ Hawk by three parts of a length 7 with the favourite two lengths further hack third, followed by Musical Chimes, Marvin Dillon, and Panco Las.

For tho Waipango Hack Handicap Filosol was withdrawn and Latin Quarter sent out a good favourite, with Mernbo, Killorna, and Battle Maid the others fancied. Killorna, from the rails, was the smartest to begin, and she led Battle Maid, Mernbo, and the favourite to the back. The only change to the far turn was Membo dropping out, and racing across the top Latin Quarter joined Killorna and Battle Maid, and the trio entered the straight abreast, with Attractive Lady and Narrative next. Latin Quarter and Kiilormi drew away from Battle Maid Ueiore reaching tire distance post, where Narrative commenced a good run. The favourite had Killorna beaten opposite the stand, but Narrative caught him a few strides from tho post and von by a short neck. Killorna. was a short length away third, and Cupid’s Dart, who was badly leit, and Takaka nest. Investments, £2,0674 (£1.840).

Caiui&ader, whose leg filled alter Monday's race, was withdrawn from the Farewell .Handicap, and tile betting between Battle Flag, Black Duke, and Apache was very close, with Some Rose and Eaton Bells also well backed. Coomassie was slow to find her feet, and Arch Arrow led out from Apache, but after going a furlong Arch Arrow was three lengths clear of Eaton Bells, with Black Duke and Apache running next. The order was the same going round the far turn, where the field was badlv strung out, and Arch Arrow was still well clear at the home turn, where Eaton Bells, Black Duke, and Battle Flag were next. At the distance post Arch Arrow was done with, and Coomassie joined Black Duke and Battle Flag. In a great finish Black Duke staved on the best and heat Battle I'lag bv half a, length, with Coomassie the same distance away third. Apache and The Harp and Arch Arrow next. Investments, £2,SS2t (£3.1 1 1 ) •
