MOSGIEL BOROUGH COUNCIL

MONTHLY MEETING The Mayor (Mr J. P. Walls) presided over the monthly meeting of tlio Mosgicl Horough Council last night, There was a lull attendance of councillors. CORRESPONDENCE. Messrs Webb and Allan wrote regarding Mr Ai Jcssicman (deceased),, and notified that his property had been transferred to a beneficiary who owned tlio adjoining property. .Both. properties would be occupied by him as one, and should, therefore, not be rated .separately. The charges for sanitary lees and water rates should be adjusted accordingly.—The clerk was instructed to attend to the matter. Taieri County Council notified that the triennial election of a member to represent the combined districts of tlic counties of Taieri-Waikouaiti-Waihomo upon the Otago Harbour Hoard tell on May 8, 1921), and lixed Tuesday, April 2;!, as the day for tho closing of nominations.—The clerk was asked to confer with the Taieri County clerk.

The JDistrice Engineer, New Zealand Hallways, replied to the council’s letter regarding Owhiro Creek, and stated that that creek was polluted by drainage from residences in the borough. Regarding the poplar frees on the south side of the road lie stated that they did not cast a shadow on the road, and assisted in beautilying the b.nougti.'—.It was decided to reply, asking that one tree should be cut down, us it was damaging an oak tree owned by the council. It was recommended that- the town clerk' should be the person to exercise the vote on the Taieri County Council's electoral roll in respect to property in the name ol die borough. The Works Committee detailed the work of the month, and made the following recommendations; —’I hat Air 11-.I 1 -. F. Roberts should be asked to submit an estimate of the probable cost ol swinging the pipe lino at Cow’s crossing. and 111 at tenders should bo called for 20Uyds of, gravel for the borough streets. —Adopted. TITF SFIT 1C TANKS. 'The Taieri County Council wrote regarding the borough septic tanks and Silverstream, am! stated that the qncslion had been'discussed by the council, and from n number of samples taken by their inspector the trouble was caused by the discharge into the sewer in .Factory road north, and suggested that some effort should be made to deal with it at this point. The Works Committee reported that the health inspector's report upon tlie septic tanks had been fully considered, and certain alterations and improvements were _ m contemplation during the forthcoming month. It had been left to the mayor lo interview the borough solicitor upon a matter relative lo ibis subject by which it is hoped a considerable improvement would bo eflcctcd in the near future. GENERAL. The Municipal Association > of Kcw Zealand wrote regarding the 'I ransport Advisory Council and heavy traffic tees. —The mayor was instructed to interview Air F. A. Aiisoll, A.1.P., on the matter. Tenders for gravel carting were dealt with, and that of G. Rnibven "'as accepted. GENERAL. Air George Hendry (representing the Taieri Football Club) waited on the council regarding the lighting charges fur the recreaton ground lor'the winter .season.—-After discussion it was resolved that the council take charge of the lighting, the Football Club to pay fivesixths of the cost and the Hockey Girls Chub one-sixth. The council promised to attend to other minor matters before the opening of the season. The Hanger reported having impounded two cows during the month. The streets hud been fairly dear ol stray stock. A complaint was received from the dog tax collector regarding the nonpayment of lees by certain owners.— Resolved to send them a final notice, and. if then not paid, to prosecute. The Picture Committee recommended that the evening of April 13 be devoted to a. special showing in aid of Poppy Day funds.—Approved. WAT FIT SUPPLY FOR HICCARTON The council considered a. report from Ah' F. Fletcher Huberts upon the Hic-f-artnn water supply, ami also an accompanying plan and section, which stated that Hiccarton could not lie satisfactorily supplied by simply extending a pipe there, and that the limit of extension without auxiliary means of obtaining flic supply should be the corner of Gladstone and Hiccarton road, ami that no srnnller-sizo pipe than which would give a delivery of ougal per minute, could be recommended. — It was decided to inform those interest-,, that an estimate had been prepared of the cost of laying a 3in malleable iron pipe from the intersection ol Gordon and Gladstone roads along Gladstone road to Hiccarton road, and it now rested with Hie residents desirous of a supply to approach the council lor that purpose.
