DUNEDIN PRESBYTERY
MONTHLY MEETING The Dunedin Presbytery met this morning, the Moderator (Rev. John Pringle) presiding. The New Zealand Christian Endeavour Union wrote in connection with tho forthcoming visit to New Zealand of Miss Joanuio Street the National Sunday School Union lecturer of Great Britain and field secretary of the Christion Endeavour Society. It was stated that Miss Street would spend about ten or twelve days in Dunedin at tho end of July and the beginning of August.—The matter was referred to tho Youth Committee. Tho Clerk mentioned that this month would mark the jubilee of tho Rev. R. M. Sutherland, now resident in Wellington, who had been an ordained minister for fifty years.—lt was decided that a suitable minute bo forwarded to him.
The annual report of tho John M'Glashan College was received and adopted. The clerk and other speakers referred to the excellent work accomplished during the year, and a motion to the effect that the hoard, tho principal, and the staff bo commended was carried unanimously. The following retiring members of tho hoard were re-elected:—The Rev. A. C. W. Standage, Messrs James Rcgg, T. Somerville, A. M. Cameron, and Walter Gow. Mr J. Russell was appointed to fill the vacancy caused by tho transfer of tho Rev. It H. Barton.
The clerk (Rev. J. Kilpatrick) detailed tho quarterly financial statement of tho church, saying, in doing so, that it did not make very cheery reading.—Tho statement was referred to the Finance Committee. The Rev. Ferguson Fish submitted to the Presbytery the plans and specifications of the new Sunday School hall at Caversham. Tho building would cost approximate.? £4,300 and when completed, would ho one of the finest of its kind in Dunedin, Mr Fish also referred to the gift of £I,OOO from the Hon. T. K. Sidcy and the services rendered by Mr Sitloy in connection with Sunday School work. Ho had been associated with tho school for fortyfive years, for twenty-fivo of which ho had been superintendent. It was decided to express to Mr Sidcy an appreciation of his great services on behalf of the Sunday School in Caversham and the church in general.
Tho resignation of the Rev. J. Brodie from tho charges of Seacliff and Warrington, on account of eyesight trouble, was considered Commissioners testified to the fine work performed by Mr Brodio and spoke of tho regret of the congregations upon the announcement that ho would bo compelled to tender his resignation.
Several speakers expressed deep regret that such a step was necessary, and extended to Mr Brodie the goodwill and best wishes of the Presbytery. It was decided to accept tlio resignation, as from May 1. Tho Rev. James Wilson was appointed interim moderator of the two charges. As Air Brodi° will probably go to England shortly, a motion recommending” that ho should receive a general commission was carried.
