[From Ova Correspondent.] BALCLUTHA, April 2. PASTE It CRICKET. Numbers of the Otago League cricket paid a visit to South Otago during the holidays, and played a senes ot matches. These fixtures have been played every Easter for some years, and both the league and South Otago look forward to them with enjoyment. The visitors played their first match ai Milton on Good Friday against a North uf the River team. The weather was good, and the match ended in a draw. The visitors batted first, and made 177, to which Quest (74) was the chief contributor. Eckhoff 17, Mattingly L 5, Froode 13, and Hollander 10 were the other double figure batsmen. •‘Extras” contributed 23. Kane (five for 35) was the most successful South Otago howler. The north players lost nine wickets for 126 runs. Turnbull (35) was top-scorer. Codings and Kane made 25 each, while D. Bowie 16 was the other player to reach double figures. At one stage the home team had lost nine wickets for 94, but the last wicket partnership saved the day. Froode Q'our for 39), Eckhoff (two for 38), Mattingly (two for 11), and Quest (one for 35) were the bowlers. On Saturday the visitors met a South of the River team at Waiwera, and had a narrow victory by four runs. South batted first, and made 159, W. Sutherland being top scorer with 34. Other batsmen to make a stand were L Dunn 26, G. Lennox 21, Smith 17, Eindlater 19, and Nicol 14. “ Extras” again scored well, 14 being added through these. Quest (four for 49) and Wilson (four for 18) were the most successful bowlers. League made 163, Quest (77) again topping the score. M‘Noil 22, Holden 15, and Wilson 12 were the only others to reach double figures. “Extras” contributed 17. Lennox (five for 39) and Nicol (five for 49) divided bowling honours. The weather was showery, but the players made the best of things and thoroughly enjoyed themselves.

'Pile visitors spent the week-end at W aiwern, and had a very enjoyable time with the folk there, being hospitably entertained. Yesterday they played a South Otago team at Balclutha. The weather was glorious, and a very enjoyable match was the result. League batted first, and were disposed of before the luncheon adjournment after making 76 runs. Eckhoff (15) was top-scorer, being closely followed by Quest (16) and Froode and Holden (I'd each). Lennox (five for 27), Nmol (three for IS), and Turnbull (two for 14) divided the wickets. South Otago made 95, thus winning by 19 runs. Wiseley was top-scorer with 29, Turnbull (16) being the only other South Otago player to reach double figures. Wilson (three for 9), Froode (four for 29), Eckhoff (one for 3), and Quest (two for 46) were the bowlers. The visitors left by last night’s express for home after a most enjoyable holiday in South Otago. KARA POINT. This resort was very popular during the holidays, and all available accommodation was utilised. On Saturday night a concert party, organised by CJhas. Begg and Co., of Dunedin, gave a delightful entertainment to a large audience in aid of the Welfare Society’s funds. The programme was of a varied nature, and each and every item was well received. 'those contributing were Bcgg’s Orchestra (under Mr J. F. Himburg), Messrs AV. Bnffell. W. Le Gal, W. Carey, A,. Lungley, Ted Andrews, J. Law. J. Burke. Misses C. Poole, N. ■Warren, W. Wilson. Miss Kathleen Whelan was accompanist. After the concert an enjoyable dance, for which the orchestra provided the music, was l*bld; while on Sunday night the party gave a sacred concert which attracted a larage audience.
