SIR G. H. KNIBBS
MELBOURNE, March 31. The death of Sir George M Knibbs. formerly Commonwealth Statistician, is announced. Ho was seventy years of ago. [Sir George Handley Knibbs was born in Sydney on Juno EL 1858. Ho was on the stall of the trigonometrical and general survey, New South Wales, from 1877 till 1389, independent lecturer in tho department of engineering at the Sydney University from 1889 till 1906, acting professor of physics at the University in 1905, and director of technical education in New South 'Wales iu 191)5-06. He was Boyal Commissioner on education for New Wales from 19U2 til! 1906. lie was president of the I? ova I Society of New Soutli Wales in 1898-99, and its honorary secretary for nine years. He was appointed Commonwealth Statistician in 1906, and held the position till 1921. He was kuighted in 1926.]
