RAIN INTERFERES WITH PLAY The South Island lawn tennis championships were continued this morning, the men’s games at tho Anderson’s Bay courts and tho ladies’ games at the Otago courts, hut owing to the showery weather little progress was made Players evidently thought the courts would be- wetter than they really were, and some did not put in an appearance till well on into tho morning. The men’s singles championship match between Angas and Renton promised to bo very interesting, but when Angas was leading by 4 games to i rain interrupted the match This’morning’s results were: MEN’S SINGLES CHAAIPIONSHIP. —Third Round. — Aloody beat Barsdell, 6-0, G-l. MEN’S SINGLES HANDICAP. —Third Round.— AFKinnon (Knrow) boat Cotterill (Central Otago), 9-2. LADIES’ SINGLES HANDICAP. —First Round.—■ Miss Romans (Oainaru, owe 30) 4-6 heat Aliss E. Read (owe 15) 9-5. LADIES’ DOUBLES HANDICAP. Airs Tregear and Atiss Clave (owe 151-6) beat Misses Alartin and AVatson (owe 3-6) 9-3. Misses Pattison and AAhitc (owe 40) heat Airs Long_ and Aliss -Manchester (owe 15) 9-/.
