CHOIR RECITAL

‘ OLIVET TO CALVARY » The performance of the cantata ‘ Olivet to Calvary ’ by an augmented choir in St. Matthew’s Church last evening gave evidence of carolul preparation and thorough appreciation of a very fine work. The choir, which was directed by Mr Axel Newton. was in excellent form, and sang with deep feeling and expression. The soloists were Miss Florence Sumner, Messrs G. S. Newton and JM. Caebcmadle, all three giving artistic performances. The singing was distinguished by splendid uniformity, and a full, warm tone was sustained throughout.
