JOHN M’GLASHAN COLLEGE
VISIT BY MEMBERS OF SYNOD Some forty members of the Presbyterian Synod visited the John M‘Glasha n College yesterday, and were mot by the chairman of the Board of Governors (Air T. C. Boss), who expressed pleasure at seeing so many of the members of Synod present. The Synod having given such generous financial support to the college, be trusted the members would approve of their closer view of the school and its working, and of the moral training the staff was striving to impart. ]n Mr Gilray they had a headmaster second to none in the dominion, and he was backed by a capable staff as the results of the recent matriculation examination showed, there being twelve passes out of a small class, the whole of which entered, in games, for its sizq, the school was doing well, and, what was far more important, the teams had a good name for “playing the game.” Air Boss ended by reminding those present that a school, to be complete, needed not only an enthusiastic board, an efficient staff, and some healthy boys, but it wanted more and yet more boys, and he looked to the members of Synod to go back to their districts and speak of the college, as they went about the country. The Moderator of Synod (Ilev. J. J. Cairney) spoke of the duty of the church in founding church schools where religions training was given, and thanked tlio governors for giving Synod the opportunity of seeing over the college. The newly-opened carpentry shop, science room, classrooms, and the dormitory block were then visited, the visitors expressing approval of all they saw.
